“All Things Considered” on KCRW 89.9 FM

Newsroom Intern

Role: KCRW 2019 Fall Intern for “All Things Considered”

My role largely focused on writing scripts and producing audio stories for local and national stories. I wrote news broadcast story scripts read on-air by host, Larry Mantle. I recorded news packages which broadcasted during “All Things Considered” and “Morning Edition” the next day. I sought out, scheduled, and conducted phone interviews with guests for stories. I edited the ~15-minute recordings into 10-30 second audio clips, and then write a newscast around the clips. During broadcasts I assisted the show producer, Cerise Castle; I monitored the newswire and would write news briefs for breaking stories for immediate air. Additionally I wrote show promos advertising “All Things Considered” which would air on other programs.

I provided direct coverage on over half-a-dozen major wildfires in during the 2019 Wildfire season – including the Kincaide, Getty, and Sandalwood fires. I also reported on strategic blackouts due to wildfires. During one specific instance, over 300,000 So-Cal residents faced a potential blackout by Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) for the weekend. I called and interviewed representatives from Southern California Edison in real time for the latest updates and information for residents.
